Like Veins Across Heart - finale

This is the final transformation of my most recent piece, Like Veins Across Heart, from (July 2011). Mid-December, I hung what was remaining of the tapestry - like a sheet hanging from a line - on some land near my home. The plant matter, shriveled and dried, clung to the burlap upon which it originally grew. It burned shortly after dusk, with the help of some lighter fluid and white fuel. Back to dust.

Après Londres, Chicago et Toronto, voilà que les montréalais s’intéressent aux abeilles et à l’apiculture urbaine qui est souvent pratiquée sur les toits des édifices, en plein coeur de la ville. Cet été, plusieurs projets communautaires d’apiculture ont eu lieu au Plateau-Mont-Royal. Les participants sont ravis de leur expérience et l’engouement pour les abeilles ne cesse de croître.

Concernant l’apiculture :

• Quels sont les bienfaits en milieu urbain?
• Quels sont les défis?
• Et les risques pour la population?

Dans le district Mile End, la production de miel urbain en est à ses débuts et aucune législation municipale existe pour ce type d’agriculture. Le but du mini colloque, c’est de réunir les apiculteurs, les résidants intéressés et les élus afin de faire une mise à jour concernant l’apiculture urbaine, de reconnaître son importance pour le Plateau-Mont-Royal et de discuter de son avenir.

Dans le cadre des Journées de la culture, le collectif Ouvert/Open organise deux activités sur la thématique de la voie ferrée et sa réappropriation citoyenne :

le samedi 1er octobre, au Café Le Falco (5605 de Gaspé, Montréal)

17h-18h : Cartographier la track !
Atelier d'expérimentation cartographique et de création.
Cet atelier de création cartographique propose de réfléchir aux usages et réappropriations de l'emprise ferroviaire. À partir de leur propre expérience du lieu, les participants seront invités à représenter sur une carte leurs chemins de traverse, leurs détours et leurs dérives autour de la voie ferrée. Les cartes créées feront partie d'une exposition organisée par la galerie Articule à l'automne. Venez participer à la mobilisation et partager votre expérience du lieu de manière créative!
En partenariat avec : galerie Articule, cabinet d'architecture Rayside-Labossière, Comité citoyen du Mile End, Les Amis du Champ des Possibles.

Projection multimédia sur l'univers visuel et sonore de la track.

Projection des œuvres du concours ‘À la track ! Regards sur l'emprise ferroviaire’. Sélection de photos, dessins, vidéos, films, animations et créations sonores illustrant la réalité, l'insolite, la vie quotidienne, les rencontres, l’atmosphère et la poésie de la voie ferrée et ses alentours. Under the artistic direction of Mary Faught, the Rideau Canal Festival commissioned ten of us to work with the theme of Connections. Our temporary art installations became a part of the Confederation Park in a huge outdoor gallery from July 28 - August 1. My living / dying tapestry, 'like veins across heart' incorporated the living embroidery of plant matter across burlap. Centering around the Rideau, Outaouais and Gatineau waterways, it maps out the connections between the Ottawa/Gatineau region's major arteries. It was a great collection of temporary public works, and we hope it returns next year!

Par la présente nous vous invitons à la première Assemblée Générale des Amis du Champ des Possibles (ACDP).

Celle-ci aura lieu le 16 mars de 19h à 21h au Café le Falco 5605 Avenue de Gaspé. Au cours de la soirée, il y aura des bouchées, du café et du thé.

Des élections auront lieu pour former le premier conseil d’administration des ACDP. Vous trouverez plus bas la procédure qui sera utilisée pour élire les membres de ce conseil.

L’ordre du jour est le suivant :

1. Mot de bienvenue, élection à la présidence et au secrétariat de la soirée ;
2. Historique du Champ des Possibles
3. Présentation du document de synthèse, fondement et plan directeur de l’initiative
4. Présentation du plan d’action 2011-2012
5. Période de questions/réponses
6. Adoption de la proposition de règlements généraux, du plan d’action et du budget
7. Mise en nomination des candidatures pour les postes (7 au total, 5 vacants) au conseil d’administration.
8. Élections (s’il y a lieu)
9. Clôture de l’assemblée

En ce qui concerne le conseil d’administration, les durées des mandats sont deux ans sauf pour l’année en cours où la moitié des postes seront d’une durée de un an. La répartition de ces postes, ainsi que ceux de directions (présidence, vice-présidence, trésorerie, secrétariat) se fait au sein du conseil d’administration nouvellement élu. Nous vous invitons à lire le document ‘Règlements généraux’ en pièce jointe, particulièrement les titres IV et V.

Déjà, il y a deux postes qui sont comblés. Cinq restent à pourvoir et nous vous invitons par la présente à soumettre votre candidature par retour de courriel. Prenez bonne note qu’il faudra que votre candidature soit secondée afin d’être acceptée. Ci-bas, figure les règlements des élections.

Règlements des élections

* Les élections au conseil d’administration auront lieu lors de l’Assemblée générale du 16 mars. Elles se feront au scrutin secret.

* Nous acceptons les candidatures spontanées par retour de courriel. Au cours de l’Assemblée générale, nous favoriserons les candidatures proposées sur celles spontanées sans toutefois les exclure complètement.

* Toute canditature doit être secondée par un autre membre (différent du membre qui propose le ou la candidate) pendant la soirée du 16 mars. Cela signifie que les candidatures par retour de courriel devront être secondées.

* Lorsqu’il n’y aura plus de candidature, nous confirmerons auprès des membres candidats s’ils la maintiennent en ordre inverse de leur nomination.

* S’il y a plus de candidatures que de postes à pourvoir, nous procéderons aux élections:

1. Élection du/de la scrutatrice et du/de la secrétaire d’élection.
2. Élections au vote secret.
3. Dépouillement du vote.
4. Annonce des candidats heureux.

Dear Friend of the Champ des Possibles,

We hereby invite you to the first General Meeting of les Amis du Champ des Possibles (ACDP).

This will take place March 16 from 7pm to 9pm at the Falco Cafe, 5605 Avenue de Gaspé. During the evening there will be snacks, coffee and tea.

Elections will be held to form the first Board of Directors of ACDP. Below is the procedure to be used to elect members of the council.

The agenda is as follows:

1. Welcome and agenda
2. History of the Field of Possibilities
3. Presentation of the overview report, and the blueprint for the initiative
4. Presentation of the Action Plan 2011-2012
5. Questions / Answers
6. Adoption of the proposed general regulations, the action plan and budget
7. Nomination of candidates for available posts (7 total, 5 vacancies) on the board.
8. Elections (if applicable)
9. Adjournment

Regarding the Board of Directors, the terms of office are two years except for the current year where half of the positions will last one year. The distribution of these posts, and those of the directors (president, vice-president, treasury, secretary), will be undertaken by the newly elected Board of Directors. We invite you to read the document 'Règlements généraux' (attached), especially Parts IV and V.

There are two positions that are already filled. Five remain to be filled and we invite you hereby to submit your application by email. Take note that your application will have to be seconded to be accepted. Below, are the election regulations.

Electoral Regulations

* Elections to the Board of Directors will be held at the Annual General Meeting on March 16. They will be by secret ballot.

* Those interested in sitting on the Board of Directors can submit their own nomination by email. We prefer to have all nominations stated before the night of the General Assembly, but we will provide one more opportunity for nominations from the floor before proceeding to elections.

* Any canditature must be seconded by another member (different from the member proposing the nominee) during the evening of March 16. This means that applications by email will be have to be seconded.

* When all candidates have been identified, we will confirm their candidature one last time.

* If there are more nominations than vacancies, we will make the elections:

1. Election of volunteers to handle the secret vote.
2. Elections by secret ballot.
3. Counting votes.
4. Announcement of successful candidates.

Bonjour amis et complices ! Les Amis du Champ des Possibles souhaitent vous remercier pour votre appui et votre implication en 2010. Nous avons eu une année très productive et nous avons hâte de faire encore mieux en 2011. Voici ce qui s'annonce pour l'année qui commence :

* Nous tiendrons notre première Assemblée Générale au début mars. La soirée inclura une présentation de ce qui a été accompli jusqu'à maintenant, une discussion avec vous sur les projets et objectifs pour l'année qui commence. Nous aurons aussi des élections afin de pourvoir les postes du Conseil d'Administration. Soyez-y sans faute ! Ces administrateurs seront impliqués dans l’exécution du plan d’action 2011 ainsi que dans l’élaboration de structure de l’organisme.

* La fonte des neiges révélera une série d'événements, incluant le grand ménage du printemps, des visites guidées, des séances d'échanges d'idées et autres événements publics afin de faire connaître notre attachement à cet espace. Nous aurons besoin de l'aide de chacun d'entre vous alors n'hésitez pas à vous impliquer comme vous le pouvez. Vous êtes bien sûr toujours les bienvenus avec vos propositions d'événements !

* À l'intérieur du Comité Concepteur du Champ des Possibles (avec l'arrondissement et la ville) nous allons voir à faire avancer le dossier cette année. Nous voulons des actions concrètes pour l'avenir de cet espace. Nous avons un objectif ambitieux pour 2011: le rezonage de l'espace afin d'assurer sont statut permanent de parc, combiné à une réserve de biodiversité urbaine.

C’est en cette occasion que nous discuterons ensemble des plans et des objectifs pour 2011 ainsi que de la forme de l'organigramme de l'OBNL. Membres et non-membres sont bienvenus ! News update from Les Amis du Champ des Possibles (02-14-2011)

Hello to all our friends! Les Amis du Champ des Possibles would like to thank you for your support in 2010. We had a very productive year and are looking forward to an even better 2011. Here is a brief outline for the coming year:

* We will host our first OBNL general meeting in early March. The evening will provide an opportunity for our members to meet each other. We will review what has been achieved so far and will discuss our plans and objectives for 2011. We will also vote to select members for the board of directors, so don’t miss it! These members will be directly involved in the structure and planning of the organization.

* With the spring melt comes a full schedule of events. These public activities will include cleanup sessions, educational walking tours, cultural events and brainstorming sessions to define the future of t urban meadow. These activities will promote public use of the space and will demonstrate its value to our community. We will need help with each event, so please get involved in any way you can. You are also very welcome to suggest other events in the field…

* The Champs des Possibles design committee will continue pushing hard to voice community concerns in our ongoing meetings with the City and the Borough council. We hope to see positive steps taken in determining the future of the field. Our goal for 2011 is the site’s re-zoning from ‘industrial’ to ‘park’ and to secure its status as an urban biodiversity reserve.

The date of our first general meeting will be announced shortly. As well as being a social event for our members, we will make plans for 2011 and outline the structure of our newly-formed non-profit organization. We will also discuss ways to get involved in our community’s effort to preserve and promote the wild beauty of this special place.

Both members and non-members are welcome.

We look forward to collaborating with you in 2011!

This idea that art stays in the box and then the world of politics and sociality stays out here is increasingly not the case. We live in a landscape where cultural production is the production of politics. It is the production of who we are. The cultural landscape is a political landscape. That call to arms makes cultural producers extraordinarily relevant in society. The relationship of cultural production to everyday life is no longer what it once was. Everybody is a cultural producer. People make stuff and engage with culture. With that in mind, that is the kind of call we are here to engage with.

A week ago I was in New York city for a great conference which took place at Cooper Union. Creative Time: revolutions in public practice brought over 40 academics, researchers, artists and activists together to discuss socially engaged art and public practice. The panels included: schools, food, markets, geographies, governments, institutions, and plausible art worlds.

The entire two-day conference was recorded for anyone to follow the event live via Livestream from anywhere in the world, and it remains online for public access. Below, are some noteworthy speeches:

Samedi était un succès! Le soleil brillait, et les 3 tripods (qui ont été volé pour un feu) ont été re-construits et solidifiés. Les sculptures d'houblon peuvent maintenant re-grimper...

Saturday was a success! The weather was beautiful and the 3 tripods (that had been stolen for firewood) were re-installed and anchored to be more solid. The hops sculptures once again have a support to climb up.

WHAT ~ Saturday, September 18th Les Amis du Champ des Possibles will host a working bee on the last wild green space of the Mile End district on the Plateau Mont-Royal. We will be cleaning up and preparing the site for the winter. We also have to weed and rebuild (again!) the Roerich Garden structures. Come show your love for this space! These activities are open to ALL, and participants of all ages are welcome. We are currently in the process of finalizing the formation of the non-profit les Amis du Champs des Possibles, of which everyone can become a member, and preparing for our next round of meetings with the city to determine the fate of this space.

WHY~ Come out and re-dedicate this space as a community landmark and wild park that deserves to be kept as it is. These work sessions help us show the city that we are willing and ready to be the stewards of this beautiful greenspace.

WHEN ~ Saturday, September 18th, 12noon - 4pm. If the weather is terrible, the rain date is set for the following Saturday, September 25th. Either way, bring your boots and work gloves.

Samedi le 18 septembre Les Amis du Champ des Possibles feront quelques travaux au dernier espace vert libre du quartier Mile End sur le Plateau Mont-Royal. Question de nettoyer un peu en préparation de l’hiver. Nous devons aussi désherber et reconstruire (encore!) les structures du Jardin Roerich. Venez montrer votre attachement à cet espace. Ces activités sont ouvertes à TOUS et les participants de tous âges sont bienvenus. Nous sommes présentement à terminer les démarches pour la mise sur pied de l’organisme Les Amis du Champ des Possibles (OBNL): tous pourront devenir membres. Nous préparons aussi notre prochaine saison de rencontres de travail avec l’arrondissement afin de déterminer l’avenir de l’endroit.

Venez reaffirmer que cet espace est précieux à la communauté et que sa préservation est importante. Votre implication dans ces activités nous aide à démontrer à l’administration que nous sommes prêts à être les gardiens de ce bel espace vert.

Samedi le 18 septembre de midi à 16h. Si le temps est mauvais le tout sera remis au samedi suivant, le 25 septembre. De toutes façons apportez vos bottes et vos gants.

I am in the process of making a series of stencils as a tribute to red clover. I've had a close affinity with rc for many years. It's the most lovely plant. Words could not describe the love I have. Drawing it is a good way to discover the layers of its' personality (drinking it as an infusion, too, for that matter!). Like a human portrait, the features and dimensions of its' essence reveal themselves with each drawing. O red clover...I am a fan.

Je suis en train de faire une série de stencils comme hommage au trèfle rouge. J'ai une affinité très proche avec cette plante depuis des années. Elle est merveilleuse. Les mots ne peuvent jamais décrire l'amour que j'ai pour cette plant. La dessiner, est une bonne façon de découvrir sa personalité (de la boire en forme d'infusion aussi). Comme un portrait humain, les traits et les dimensions de son essence émerge avec chaque dessin. O trèfle rouge...comme je t'adore.

La biodiversité d’un terrain vague.

Dimanche le 29 août à 14h. Les Amis du Champ des Possibles donneront une visite guidée de ce dernier espace vert sauvage du quartier Mile End sur le Plateau Mont-Royal. Le naturaliste urbain Roger Latour attirera l’attention sur la flore spontanée des lieux en tant que ressource pour la biodiversité. Une présentation de l’idée de Réserve de Biodiversité Urbaine sera aussi donnée.

L’apicultrice en résidence, Kathryn Jezer-Morton, nous fera une brève présentation de l’apiculture urbaine. Kathryn sera avec nous si elle n’est pas en train d’accoucher, c’est le moment pour elle!

La météo s’annonce exceptionnelle: soleil et température jusqu’à 31C. Au cas où: l’événement aura lieu beau temps, mauvais temps: apportez vos chaloupes, tuques ou crème solaire. Venez nous rencontrer, nous souhaitons vous connaître et échanger.

Durée d’environ 2 heures. Contribution volontaire de 5$ suggérée pour les activités des Amis du Champ des Possibles.

The biodiversity of a terrain vague.

Sunday, August 29th at 2 PM. Les Amis du Champ des Possibles will give a guided tour of the last wild green space of the Mile End district on the Plateau Mont-Royal. Urban naturalist Roger Latour will highlight the local plants as resource for biodiversity. A presentation of the concept of Urban Biodiversity Reserve will also be given.

Beekeeper in residence Kathryn Jezer-Morton will give a short presentation of urban apiculture. Kathryn will greet us if she is not busy greeting her child: she is expecting and this is expected this weekend!

Weather forecast is splendid: sun and 31C. Just in case: the event will take place whatever the weather conditions: bring your rubber boots, scarf or tanning lotion. Come meet us, we wish to know you and share ideas.

Duration about 2 hours. A voluntary contribution of 5$ is suggested for the activities to support the new nonprofit the Amis du Champ des Possibles.

This piece is about my maternal grandmother, Yvonne Thérèse Michaud (1926-2005). I recently co-wrote a letter with my mother which speaks to the struggles Yvonne faced while raising ten children alone in rural Quebec and of her lifelong battle with mental illness. As I read my mother's memories, I invite the audience to ponder the the possibility of experiencing ecstasy, while simultaneously feeling pain. In the background is a drawing of Sainte Thérèse, based on Bernini's beloved marble sculpture. My drawing is an attempt to capture this feeling of pure presence and love despite deep personal struggle or pain. * A short video of this piece will be made and edited in the next few weeks and posted to my site emilyrosemichaud.com

Glen works with salvaged industrial metal which not only addresses historical and ecological concerns but also becomes a method of inclusivity. He believes that by using recycled material in unexpected ways the survival of these materials becomes heroic and their transformation from object into Art becomes part of a mythological process.

After a particularly damp and stormy few weeks, something appeared in the buckwheat field. Going at first unnoticed, small shoots made their way up from the soil like mushrooms after rain. It wasn't until they shot up above the surrounding plants that their presence became known. Pale, fuzzy stalks, devoid of leaves, rose over the rows, twisting and swaying gently in the breeze.

the place we deposit our dignified excrement is a place of many names and shapes but whether the loo or the washroom that may overwhelm with a sudden sense of claustrophobia or a gluttonous loft with a grandiose view, the toilette is a place of many inner stations, all culminating in waste. for most, the physical space is (happily) personal, allowing for unhindered rejection of kraft dinner, for instance - a perfectly synthetic substance that prevents the body from housing a healthy spirit. it is also a place of contemplation, where questions such are: "what happens when you are fed krap - what stays in?" by this i, of course mean exposure to sensory overload by advertising or doctored up stories about protests, environmental disasters, or the state of canadian natural resources with relation to trade. more than such small secular musings or corporeal needs, the water closet is a place of the divine and sacred - water.

Desolation-Low is a video projection of a dark empty space speckled with shimmers of sunshine. The video of sparkling motion transforms a dendritic forest of interlaced branches into transient wisps of vapour - disjointed and floating. The trees, static on a windless night, appear to fragment and become full of motion. If it is windy, the event takes on a million different dimensions as each leaf becomes a mini projection surface.

You are invited to a guided walk in the field (Mile End's rare remaining green space) where we will take a tour of the botanical diversity and discuss the origin of the plants there with urban naturalist Roger Latour. A presentation and summary will also be given for the proposed project to convert the Northern part of the field into an Urban Biodiversity Reserve.

L’Extase de Sainte Thérèse ~

This performance piece I've just conceived is among a collection of four installation works I've curated, from rural + urban artists and sculptors. Held at 100 Mile Farm on 203 acres of agricultural land bordering the Gatineau Park in Wakefield, Qc, these works are on view on Saturday only, before dusk between 5:00-9:00pm. This event is 100 Mile Farm's 1st Annual Music and Arts Installation Festival and is to advance their dream of becoming an educational centre and summer art camp. Beer and food from surrounding farms will be for sale and music from local talent will begin after dusk and go into the night.

L’été est arrivé et avant que la saison des allergies ne s’installe, nous devons nous occuper de l’herbe à poux dans le champ. Nous organisons une rencontre dans le champ samedi le 3 juillet* entre 14h - 17h pour retirer cette plante. Vous êtes invités à démontrer votre appui de l’idée de réappropriation des espaces verts urbains. Cet effort de contrôle fait partie de l’entente convenue avec l’arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal pour éviter la fauche complète du champ. Lors de la fauche radicale en août dernier, le champ a perdu bien des ressources pour les oiseaux et les insectes. Alors, apportez vos gants et désherbons avant l’émission du pollen de l’herbe à poux.

Saviez-vous qu’un insecte a une relation exclusive avec l’herbe à poux? De la même façon que le papillon monarque a besoin de l’asclépiade pour nourrir ses larves, la mouche à fruit Euaresta bella pond ses oeufs exclusivement dans les fleurs de l’herbe à poux. L’insecte agit donc comme contrôle biologique: la plante produisant moins de graines. Au-delà de ce service, faire place à la biodiversité c’est aussi faire place avec tolérance à cette petite mouche: svp laissez une plante sur dix!

Summer is here and before allergy season takes full hold of us, we have to take care of the ragweed in the field. We are organizing a gathering in the field on Saturday July 3rd* from 2-5 to remove the ragweed. You are invited to join in to show your support of the idea of reappropriating urban green spaces. This weed control effort is part of the deal we have made with the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough so that they do not mow the field this season. When the city mowed the field last August, it left a desert by eliminating food sources for birds and insects. So, bring your gloves and let’s weed it out before the pollen spreads. *on Saturday the tenth in case of rain

Did you know that an insect has an exclusive relation to the ragweed? Identical to the special relationship of monarch butterflies and the milkweed, the fruit fly Euaresta bella lay eggs only in the flowers of the ragweed. It acts as a natural bio-control of the weed: it will produce less seeds. Beyond this service, making room for biodiversity is also making room with tolerance to this little fly: please leave one out of ten plants standing!

A Performance Celebrating Water | June 21 2010

How do we relate to water after the gulf oil crisis? What information can our senses bring to our consciousness of water at this present moment in time?

I'm pleased to invite you to an event I'll be performing at this coming Monday June 21st, 2010 (Hall Building, H-767). The Thinking with Water Project http://thinkingwithwater.net/content/about-workshop is hosting an Artists' panel “Thinking with Water: Beyond Text” from 4:45pm - 6:30pm. My freshwater mermaid will be making a short appearance, offering water samples from a collection of rivers and lakes of various regions of Quebec. Some water samples are out of stock and contaminated, while others taste like blueberry roots and rocks. Interaction guaranteed.

"Moving beyond text and materializing alternate approaches to thinking with water, artists and researchers Sarah Renshaw, Rae Staseson and Gisèle Trudel (Ælab) will present and discuss their work with water. Thoughtful, thought-provoking and materially rich, their artworks, Stream of Consciousness (2010), Water Drawing (2010) and the “conference performance” of light, sweet, cold, dark, crude (LSCDC) (2006-), offer a generative counterpoint to the written components of the Thinking With Water collection. During the opening reception, Emily Rose Michaud will offer a rare tasting of nearby waters."

This aerial shot was taken from the 12th floor of the industrial building overlooking the field....on the day when the sun was so bright. The weather has been on our side, doing such nice work watering and sunning the hops sculptures. If you look closely at this picture, you'll see bright green spots by each of the tripods, where the hops were planted. They are going strong, and growing by the hour.

Cette photo a été prise du 12ème étage d'un immeuble industriel qui a vue plongeante sur le champ...une journée où le soleil brillait intensément. La température était de notre côté, fournissant l'humidité et la lumière nécessaire à l'épanouissement des sculptures de houblons. En regardant attentivement cette photo, on peut voir les éclats de vert éclatant à la base de chacun des tripodes de bois où le houblon a été planté. Les plants deviennent de plus en plus fort et poussent d'heure en heure.

FORUM OUVERT. Une rencontre organisée par DARE-DARE, animée par Sophie Le-Phat Ho et Anne Goldenberg et produite par vous, participant-e-s.

Chacun.e à leur façon, artistes, citoyens et militants inventent, défendent et modèlent le sens et la forme de la ville d’aujourd’hui. Investissant les plateformes, les carrefours et les interstices, instiguant de nouveaux espaces-temps, et luttant pour la survie de leurs quartiers et de leurs droits, ils réinventent la ville par différents biais. Ces différentes luttes, interventions, arts-de-faire, et savoirs-faire se côtoient et se sédimentent sans nécessairement se croiser. Nous voulons qu’elles se rencontrent.

DARE-DARE vous convie à une rencontre dont vous serez les protagonistes. Il s’agit d’un “forum ouvert” d’un après-midi qui vise à partager des pratiques et insuffler des collaborations entre nos façons de lutter et de pratiquer la ville. Le forum ouvert ou l’openspace est une méthode de co-construction des savoirs et de partage des pratiques. Il débute par la mise-en-place collective de l’agenda, se déroule en plusieurs sessions parallèles et se termine avec l’élaboration d’initiatives issues des discussions.

As we struggle, appropriate and instigate, we re-invent the city to better suit our needs. These different ways of being and doing often occur organically and without necessarily crossing paths. We would like for them to meet.

En découvrant les bases du dessin, les enfants s'amuseront à manipuler la matière des murs de mousse. Accompagnés des guides de l'atelier, ils feront, pour peindre, une matière à base de mousse et de lait de beurre, ils créeront des pochoirs puis peindront sur du tissu et dehors sur des surfaces telles le ciment et les arbres. Chacun des enfants repartira avec un peu de cette pâte de mousse (pour usage intérieur et extérieur), un vaporisateur et leur propre toile dont ils s'occuperont et garderont la mousse humide afin que leur "dessin" prenne vie pendant les semaines qui suivront. Art Vivant pour les enfants - Tapisseries Vivantes (6 ans et +)

Cet atelier a pour but de familiariser les enfants avec les couleurs et textures des tapisseries vivantes (des germes qui poussent sur de la toile de jute) Aussi, c'est une manière amusante de travailler, en utilisant la 2-D et la 3-D. Les participants dessineront leurs idées sur papier avant de les reproduire sur des mini-tapisseries que chacun emportera à la maison pour s'en occuper. Tout au long de la semaine suivante, les enfants devront arroser leurs dessins puisque les graines développent des racines qui s'accrochent au tissu comme du fil vivant. C'est une façon d'apprendre des choses sur la pousse et le temporaire : ces "dessins de germes" apprendront aux enfants à faire attention à ce qui est fugace et les encourageront à prendre soin des choses en constant changement.de Pour les enfants à partir de 6 ans et +. 5560 rue Hutchison.

Living Art for kids - Moss Murals (Ages 6+)

Exploring the basics of drawing, kids will have fun messing about in the medium of moss murals. Together with the workshop leaders, they'll make a painting medium from moss and buttermilk, create stencils, and paint onto fabric and outdoor surfaces such as cement and trees. Each child will go home with a bit of moss paste (for indoor or outdoor use), a spray bottle, and their personal canvas to care for and keep their moss moist as their 'drawing' comes to life over the following week or two. Living Art for Kids - Living Tapestries (Ages 6+)
presented by Sprout Out Loud with Emily Rose Michaud

This is a workshop which familiarizes kids with colours and textures of living tapestries (sprouts growing on burlap). It is also a fun way to work, using both 2-D and 3-D skills. Participants will draw their ideas onto paper and then translate them onto a mini tapestry for each of them to bring home and care for. Throughout the following week, their drawings will need to be watered, as the seeds develop roots and bind to fabric like living threads. As a way to learn about growing and impermanence, these 'sprout drawings' teach kids to pay attention to what is fleeting and encourage them to care for something that is ever-changing. Bonjour~
Samedi était un succès total. Un GROS merci à ceux et celles qui ont pu venir avec leur présence et implication généreuse. Plus de 45 sacs de poubelles ont été ramassés et le champ est vraiment beau. Merci aux musiciens !

J'arroserais la sculpture d'houblon à chaque matin (lundi au vendredi), jusqu'au moment que les plantes peuvent survivre seules. Ça prends 40L d'eau pour que tous les 9 plantes soient contente pendant une journée chaude. Pour ceux ou celles inspirées, l'houblon aura besoin de l'eau les samedis et les dimanches (les matins et les soirs sont idéales). Une bonne source d'eau pas loin du champ se trouve à une garderie pour enfants sur Carmel et Henri-Julien, en arrière de la garderie.

Saturday was a total success. Big kudos to all who made it to the field with their generous presence and involvement. Over 45 garbage bags were picked up, and the place looks amazing. Thanks to the musicians for the inspired end of day set!

I am watering the hops sculpture each morning (Monday to Friday), until they can fend for themselves. It takes about 40L of water for all 9 plants to be content on a hot day. For those inspired, they'll need to be watered on weekends (early mornings or evenings are ideal). A good, local water source is a tap behind the children's playground on Carmel and Henri-Julien.

Invitation to all
Spring has sprung and the field has become green and juicy again. In the fall I announced my intention to step away from my involvement with the Roerich Garden's coordination...And so to rekindle the fire(s) and to encourage the continuation of physical involvement there, I invite you to come out on Saturday May 22nd to give life to the Roerich symbol once again: to have fun, meet up, clean it up, give it another chance to shine, get some media attention. Essentially, the goal is to kick start more community activity in the field in order to make a case for it to be conserved as it is. 2010 is now in everyone's hands; the tradition of weekend gardening will continue informally throughout the summer season as the community will be encouraged to make their collective mark. Actions that speak of the cultural and (re)creative value this space has is encouraged...(as well as keeping the Roerich symbol alive).

You may have heard that the project to turn the northern part of the field into a parking lot to hold city vehicles is still being discussed by the Plateau Mont-Royal's administration. Come celebrate and hang out with friends and re-dedicate this space as a community landmark that deserves to be kept wild. Bring your joy, enthusiasm, ideas, and energy. As long as the garden is kept alive, the call to cultural preservation is also kept alive. Please bring your work gloves.

Film shoot
To archive some of the traces of this day, and to valorize all of the community work that has been invested into this space up until now (in Le Champ des Possibles), May 22nd will be filmed as a part of documentary film project realized by Mélanie Pitteloud. You will certainly be free to choose whether or not to participate.

Le printemps est de retour et le champs revient à la vie... À l'automne, je vous avais annoncer mon intention de me retirer de la coordination du jardin Roerich. Afin de vous passer le relais, je vous invite à redonner vie au symbole Roerich le samedi 22 mai. Libre à vous de revenir ensuite les dimanches suivants pour la saison estivale pour entretenir cette œuvre collective et marquer ainsi le volonté communautaire de conserver le champs en tant qu'espace (ré)créatif et culturel.

Vous avez peut-être entendu que le projet de cour de voirie sur le site du champs est toujours en discussion auprès de l'administration du Plateau Mont-Royal. Il est primordial de marquer, par l'entretien du Jardin Roerich, notre souhait de conserver le champs dans son état actuel. Venez, emmener vos mains et votre énergie lors de cette joyeuse journée dédiée au jardin. Tant que le jardin réel est vivant, le rappel pour la conservation culturelle du champs reste vivante. On aura besoin d'une brouette, pour la journée, alors faites-moi signe si vous pouvez en apporter une. Emmenez aussi vos gants et vos outils pour ramasser les déchets et pour préparer la terre.

Tournage
Pour garder une trace de cette journée et pour mettre en valeur tout le travail communautaire investi jusqu'ici (dans le Champ des Possibles) la journée du 22 mai sera filmée dans le cadre d'un documentaire réalisé par Mélanie Pitteloud. Vous serez évidemment libre de choisir si vous voulez être filmés ou non.

A Performance Celebrating Water | June 21 2010

I'm pleased to invite you to a wonderful event I will be performing at on Monday June 21st, 2010. The Thinking with Water Project (http://thinkingwithwater.net/content/about-workshop) is hosting an Artists' panel “Thinking with Water: Beyond Text” from 4:45pm - 6:30pm. A freshwater mermaid will be making a short appearance, offering a taste of her treasured collection of rivers and lakes from various regions of Quebec. Some water samples are out of stock, while others taste like blueberry roots and rocks.

"Moving beyond text and materializing alternate approaches to thinking with water, artists and researchers Sarah Renshaw, Rae Staseson and Gisèle Trudel (Ælab) will present and discuss their work with water. Thoughtful, thought-provoking and materially rich, their artworks, Stream of Consciousness (2010), Water Drawing (2010) and the “conference performance” of light, sweet, cold, dark, crude (LSCDC) (2006-), offer a generative counterpoint to the written components of the Thinking With Water collection. During the opening reception, Emily Rose Michaud will offer a rare tasting of nearby waters."

Demain (1^er novembre), de 14 h à 17 h, Green Dream Media rendra visite au Jardin Roerich. Green Dream est un projet documentaire qui collabore avec Sprout Out Loud dans la création d’une carte d’espaces verts, ici et ailleurs, que les résidents tiennent à cœur. Les contributions feront partie d’une carte interactive communautaire qui sera affichée au http://www.greendreammedia.com.

PS: Nous avons l’intention de compléter le désherbage des trois cercles – alors, apportez vos outils pour nous dépanner si vous voulez vous amuser !

Ce sera le dernier événement-jardinage dans le champ que je vais coordonner (pour toujours). Je me suis promis de garder mon énergie pour d’autres projets comme terminer le livre afin qu’il parte chez l’imprimeur et d’autres choses personnelles et professionnelles. Si ce jardin doit rester vivant, il aura besoin de mains et de pieds afin de garder le symbole Roerich visible: tant que le jardin réel est vivant le rappel pour la conservation culturelle du champ reste vivant.

Dans sa première phase le projet du Jardin Roerich était une installation éphémère qui s’est ensuite fondue en un projet d’art collectif/communautaire. Ce furent deux années bien pleines et on a fait bien du chemin avec des tonnes d’attention médiatique et politique. Des discussions et des actions ont été initié et de nombreux citoyens ont exprimé l’importance de cet endroit précieux pour toute la communauté. La vision originale du projet visait un dialogue à propos des plans de développemnet de la Ville et à occuper le champ de façon continue par un entretien des lieux. Je sens que ma part du travail est faite et je me retire laissant advenir ce qui adviendra.

Je vous invite à me contacter pour toutes questions mais comprenez que je ne m’investirai plus physiquement dans cet espace extraordinaire.

Sunday November 1st from 2:00 - 5:00 pm Green Dream Media will visit the Roerich Garden. Green Dream is documentary media project who will be collaborating with Sprout Out Loud to create a map of this and other spaces that are special to people across Canada. Contributions will help create an interactive community map which will be displayed at www.greendreammedia.com.

PS: We will be finishing up with the weeding of the 3 circles as well, so bring tools and help us with that if you feel the urge.

This will be the last Gardening event in the field I will be coordinating (ever). I've promised myself to keep energy for other projects, like wrapping up the book so it can go to print, as well as personal/career things. If this garden is to stay alive, it will need hands and feet to keep the Roerich symbol visible: as long as the physical garden stays alive, so does the call for cultural preservation of the field also remain alive.

In its' first stage, The Roerich Garden Project started as an ephemeral installation and then succeeded to morph into a community-collaborative art project. It's been two very full years, and we have come a long way, with tons of media and political attention that has transpired. Conversation and action has been provoked, and countless citizen's have expressed how important this rare land is to them and to the community. The original vision of the project was to provoke dialogue about the city's development plans, and to continue to inhabit the field consistently, through maintenance and physical presence. I feel my side of the work is now done, so I'll take a step back and let what is to be, be.

I invite you to contact me for questions, but please understand that I won't be putting physical investment into this awesome space anymore.

Susan, Marke, Roger et moi, nous avons rencontrés des représentants de l'arrondissment pour discuter l'entretien du champ, le 11 septembre. L'histoire courte: ils vont laisser le champ tranquil pour l'avenir proche (en termes d'entretien). Ci-dessous, le courriel que Susan a envoyé à Mme Vallée et M. Gosselin après la rencontre, et ci-joint le compte-rendu qu'elle a préparé. On aura bientôt une entente officialisée avec l'arrondissement pour éviter des coupes d'herbes comme on a vues en août ... qui est un développement positif il nous semble. En plus, on va rester en contact avec M. Gosselin si on a besoin d'aide pour l'entretien du champ, et il va nous contacter s'ils ont besoin de faire du travail dans le champ. 1- Cette réunion entre les représentants de l’Arrondissement et les représentants des citoyens a été convoquée par la Mairesse afin de régler des questions concernant l’entretien du Champ des possibles à court terme.¸

2- M. Gosselin a expliqué que les tondeuses ont été passées dans le champ en août 2009 afin d’éliminer l’herbe à poux, alors très présente sur la propriété. Il a ajouté qu’il est prêt à demander à son équipe de ne plus intervenir sur la propriété sauf s’il est nécessaire pour les raisons de santé publique, de salubrité, de sécurité publique ou de cause majeure, et qu’il serait possible d’avertir un représentant du Comité avant de faire des interventions sur la propriété.

3- Les différentes méthodes d’éliminer l’herbe à poux ont été discutées ; il a été noté que la coupure ne règle pas le problème à long terme et qu’une méthode plus appropriée serait l’enlèvement manuel systématique des plantes avant qu’elles fleurissent (normalement deux fois par été).

4- Les membres du Comité ont expliqué l’importance de respecter les valeurs du champ en ce qui a trait à la diversité impressionnante de sa flore et sa faune, son potentiel d’être une aire de biodiversité, les initiatives bénévoles du groupe Pouvoir aux Pousses (le jardin Roerich, les corvées régulières pour nettoyer le champ), l’appropriation quotidienne du lieu par les résidents et les travailleurs du quartier, et l’intérêt à protéger le caractère sauvage et la biodiversité de ce lieu exprimé par plusieurs Montréalais jusqu’à ce jour. Ils ont ajouté que plus de 200 citoyens ont participé aux multiples visites à pied du quartier Saint-Viateur Est, incluant le champ, qui ont été offertes depuis avril dernier ; en juillet, une visite accentuée sur la biodiversité du champ, offerte par Roger Latour, qui a parlé des plantes, et Bronwyn Chester, qui a présenté les arbres, a attiré plus de 40 personnes, et une autre visite sur les plantes médicinales et comestibles, cette fois par l’herboriste Lana Kim McGeary, est prévue pour le 13 septembre. Enfin, ils ont mentionné qu’un sous-comité composé d’une vingtaine d’enthousiastes travaille depuis juin dernier sur des priorités et des propositions pour l’avenir du champ.

5- Il a été convenu que :

i- Suite à la demande du Comité et afin de faciliter l’entretien quotidien du champ, l’Arrondissement installera des poubelles près des entrées, dans des lieux qui sont facilement accessibles pour la collecte des déchets sans entrer sur la propriété avec un camion.

ii- Le Comité avisera M. Gosselin des dates des corvées et d’autres activités de nettoyage afin d’organiser une collecte spéciale pour les déchets.

iii- Suite à la demande du Comité, M. Gosselin demandera à son ingénieur forestier d’inspecter l’arbre au milieu du champ dont la branche est déchirée et d’assurer que la santé de cet arbre soit protégée.

iv- M. Gosselin avisera un représentant du Comité à l’avance si d’autres interventions dans le champ par l’Arrondissement sont prévues.

v- L’enlèvement manuel de l’herbe à poux sera encouragé à l’avenir.

vi- M. Gosselin et M. François Lebrun prépareront une première ébauche d’une entente entre l’Arrondissement et le Comité des citoyens du Mile End / Sous-comité du Champ des possibles sur l’entretien du champ afin de clarifier les responsabilités de chacun et d’identifier les personnes contactes. Mme Vallée avisera le Comité aussitôt que cette ébauche est prête pour la revue du Comité et du Sous-comité.

Susan, Roger, Marke and I met with representatives of the arrondissement to discuss the maintenance of the field on September 11th. Short story: They will leave the field alone in the short term future (in terms of maintenance).

What follows is a text that Susan wrote summing up the points made during the meeting. We'll soon get an official 'entente' from the arrondissement to avoid the mowings like the one we saw in August. (The willow we planted is long gone, as are many other specimens that were attracting butterflies and certain birds). This is a positive development as far as we are concerned; Sprout Out Loud will be able to continue with our tours and gardening, as well be able to get the city's help disposing of garbage in our future maintenance. Subject: Maintenance of the Field ('Le Champ des Possibles'), property of the City of Montréal, south of the train tracks and to the East of Henri-Julien.

1- This meeting between the representatives of the arrondissement and representatives of the Mile End Citizen's Committee was inititiated by the borough mayor in order to resolve questions concerning the maintenance of Le Champ des Possibles in the short term.

2- Mr. Gosselin explained that the mowers that were passed in the field in August 2009 were to eliminate ragweed, which is a plant that is very present on the property. He said he was ready to ask his team of workers to no longer intervene on the property except unless it was necessary for reasons of public health, security, or some major reason and that it would be possible to inform a rep from the committee before doing any interventions on the property in the future.

3- Different methods for eliminating ragweed were discussed; we stated that the cutting of ragweed doesn't solve anything in the long term and that an appropriate method would be to remove the plants manually, systematically before they flower (which is usually twice per year).

4- We explained to Gosselin the importance of respecting the impressive and diverse flora and fauna, as well as the field being a potential zone reserved to highlight the wonders found in this ecosystem. We highlighted the various people that use and appreciate this space: i- The volunteer initiatives of Sprout Out Loud (our work in the Roerich Garden and surrounding land, regular working bees removing garbage) ii- the daily use by residents and workers of the district iii- the unanimous interest expressed by many Montreal dwellers to this day to save the wild nature of this space.

We added that over 200 citizens have participated in multiple walking tours of the Saint-Viateur-East neighbourhood, including the field, that have been offered since last April: In July a visit accentuating the biodiversity of the field was led by Bronwyn Chester (trees), and Roger Latour (plants) and attracted over 40 people; In September, a medicinal herb walk was facilitated by herbalist Lana Kim McGeary. We also mentioned that our sub-committee (Le Champ des Possibles) is made up of a diverse group of twenty enthusiasts who have been working since last June on the priorities and propositions for the future of the field.

5- It was agreed that:

i- Following the requests of our committee (in order to ease the daily maintenance of the field), the Arrondissement would install garbage bins near entrances to the field, in areas that would be easily accessible for the pick up without needing to enter the field with their trucks.

ii- The committee would advise Mr. Gosselin of the S.O.L maintenance bees and garbage clean ups to organize a special garbage pick up

iii- Mr. Gosselin would ask his specialist to inspect the poplar tree in the middle of the field whose branch has been ripped, and take care of it's removal

iv- Mr. Gosselin would advise a rep from our committee in advance if any interventions in the field by the city were to take place

v- The manual removal of ragweed would be encouraged in the future

vi- Mr. Gosselin and Mr. Francois Lebrun would prepare a first draft of the agreement between the Arrondissement and the Mile End Citizen's Committee / Sub-committee of Le Champ des Possibles to clarify the responsibilities of each, and to identify the contact people. Ms. Vallée would advise the committee as soon as this draft is ready to be reviewed by the Committee and Sub-committee.

The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure on Manhattan’s West Side. It was built in the 1930s to remove dangerous trains from Manhattan’s streets. No trains have run on it since 1980. Friends of the High Line formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition. FHL’s mission is to preserve the structure for reuse as an elevated public open space.

This coming Friday night the Mile End Citizen's Committee is holding an important meeting about the future of the field that the Roerich Garden and the Sprout Out Loud! gardener's collective has been occupying these last two years.

Do you care about this space? Now is the time to get involved. Everyone is invited.

We are at an critical juncture now that the city has purchased the land. Because of our community's efforts the development plans are shifting -- the Jeans Jeans Jeans building will no longer be torn down, St-Viateur will no longer be extended east, and the size and location of the cour de voirie (which would have paved a good chunk of this space) is being re-considered.

We need your continued involvement to secure and shape the future of this wild urban space. Your actions make a difference. Join us:

Suite à notre dernière réunion concernant la création de sous-comités citoyens assurant le suivit du forum, nous vous proposons d'assister à une séance d'information et de réflexion autour de la question du champs Maguire communément appelé terrain vague.

Nous avons jugé pertinent d'inviter les citoyens sensibilisés à cette problématique à se réunir autour de 4 ou 5 intervenants qui nous présenteront leurs expériences liées à ce territoire, lesquelles seront une des sources d'inspiration pour nos propositions futures.

Vous êtes donc invités à venir discuter avec Susan Bronson, Sara Finley, Emily Rose Michaud et Roger Latour le vendredi 26 juin à 19h.

Notez que cette réunion est dédiée à la question du champs, et qu'elle se limitera à cette problématique. D'autres réunions à venir s'intéresseront plus globalement au développement durable du secteur St Viateur ou à d'autres points plus ponctuels comme la place publique etc.

Bonjour à tous,

Le champs

(il appartient maintenant à la Ville!)

Il y a eu des changement importants et des développements positifs au sujet du terrain vague. Je crois qu’il est important de partager l’information avec vous. Lundi, au Conseil d’Arrondissement, la mairie du Plateau Mont Royal a confirmé l’acquisition du “champs” du Canadien Pacifique. Il a été acheté pour 1$, avec le budget de 4,7$ million nécessaire à la décontamination du terrain selon les procédures standards.

Le Roerich Garden

Est officiellement sous les mauvaises herbes, mais sa géométrie de pierres est toujours présente sous cette nature sauvage. Beaucoup des boutures de saules qu’on a planté dans l’anneau extérieur du cercle ont survécus et poussent bien. Mises-à-jours à venir. Libre à vous de me contacter si vous voulez aider au Roerich Garden en Juillet et Août.

La fin de semaine

(Venez ce dimanche de 14 à 17h)

Le Festival du Solstice, qui avait été originalement proposé pour le samedi 20 juin, est annulé. À sa place, joignez-vous à nous dimanche le 21 Juin de 14 à 17h pour une fête de plantation. Passez le mot à vos amis et apportez vos pelles et vos fourches. Joignez-moi et apportez des plantes faciles, grimpantes et des graines de fleurs colorées qui ressortiront contre la folle végétation de l’été. Je vais mettre mes dernières graines de tournesols, gloires du matin et rose trémières contre les clôtures. C’est un événement qui fait place aux enfants et nous encourageons les pique-niques.

Je serai en dehors de la ville pour du travail/recherche les mois de Juillet et Août, mais je poursuivrai mes communications et mon blogue durant mon absence. Hi all

The Field

(now belongs to the city!)

There have been some major changes and positive developments concerning the field, which I thought would be important to share. Last Monday, at the conseil d'arrondissement, the burrough of Plateau Mont-Royal confirmed the acquisition of the 'field' from the Canadian Pacific. It was bought for 1$, with 4,7$ million needed to decontaminate the terrain according to standard procedure.

The Roerich Garden

Is officially surrendering to the weeds, though its geometry of rocks still lies below the surface of wilderness. Many of the willow cuttings that were planted in the outer ring of the circle have survived and are growing well. Updates to come. Feel free to contact me if you would like to help out in the Roerich Garden throughout July and August.

The Solstice Festival, that had initially been proposed to happen on Saturday, June 20th, has been cancelled. Instead, join us on Sunday June 21 ( 2-5pm ) for a planting party. Please spread the word to your friends and bring the odd pitchfork or spade. Please join me and bring any non-fussy, high growing, colourful flower seeds that will stand up against the wilderness of the summer vegetation. I'm putting in the last of my sunflower, morning glory and hollyhock seeds against the fences. This is a kid-friendly event, and picnics are encouraged.

The summer

I will be out of the city for work/research for the month of July and August, but will continue my communications and blog updates while away. Regular events will continue throughout the season, so please stay tuned as to the whens, wheres and whats here: www.emilyrosemichaud.com. Feel free to contact me if you have art projects or guided walks related to this space and issues that are dear to you.

The book

We are still working on the book and the first phase is to put everything online. If you had agreed to be a contributor, please send me your revised and/or final edits if you want them to be included. We want to document everyone's stories, memories, inspiring initiatives that are making cities more interesting to live in, etc.

We will be doing a spontaneous filming of gestures with tools for a short youtube video for the song The Farm in My Front Yard, by Jean Elliott Manning. Come on out if you feel like dancing and having fun.

Chunks of the Lake of Stew have been invited, we hope they show up.
The Montreal Permaculture Guild will also be there on a 'field trip' from NDG.

This is a kid friendly event so bring them along and enjoy the day with us. Bring tools please. We will try to have snacks.

Bonjour à tous,

J'aimerais tout d'abord clarifier certaines choses. Il y a des informations éronées et des rumeurs qui circulent à propos d'un article écrit récemment dans le magazine Imagine Mile End. L'article est à propos de la Police de Montréal qui ont mit fin a nos activités de jardinage sur le terrain de chemin de fer privé, dimanche le 17 mai. Voir l'article : http://imaginemileend.tumblr.com/ . Je n'ai pas écris cet article.

J'aimerais clarifier que je n'ai jamais fait d'allusions au fait que la mairesse de l'arrondissement Helen Fotopulos aurait appelé la police. J'ai toujours apprécié nos échanges. J'aime également son soutien à mon projet. J'apprécie son support et son engagement pour l'écologie du quartier. Mon intention à toujours été de travailler en collaboration avec elle. J'espère que l'on pourra le faire dans le futur, puisqu'il y a des idées super inspirantes qui bouillonne dans le voisinage en ce moment même. Si elle est prête à venir à nos événements (pour lesquels elle a exprimmé un interêt) ce serait génial.

Je suis en train de vérifier ce que l'on peut et ce que l'on ne peut pas faire sur le terrain de CP. Jusqu'ici, il semble que nous ayons une confirmation du CP pour une projection de film extérieur sur un batiment à proximité pour un événement Samedi le 20 juin de 13h à 23h. Un calendrier sera disponible sur mon site sous peu. Ce sera une journée fantastique! Nous aurons besoin d'aide pour la mettre sur pieds. Alors contactez Emily le plus vite possible. Hello all,

I'd first of all like to clear the air, because there are mis-impressions and mis-communications going around about an article written recently at Imagine (le) Mile End. The article is about Montréal police officers stopping our gardening events on private railway land last Sunday May 17th. See article here: http://imaginemileend.tumblr.com/. I did not write this article.

I want to clarify that I never made assumptions about borough mayor Helen Fotopulos calling in the cops and have always enjoyed our interactions. I have been thrilled thus far with her support of my project. I appreciate her support and commitment to the greening of the borough. It has always been my intention to work cooperatively with her. I hope we can do this in the future, as there are some super inspired ideas simmering in our neighborhood at the moment. If she is willing to come out to our events, (which has indeed expressed interest in) then that would be wonderful.

Marke (of http://imaginemileend.tumblr.com) is entitled to his opinions, and has every right to express himself over the touchy and mysterious occurrence of Sunday. I am enjoying the abundance of discussion occurring over this topic.

We are in the process of seeing what we are and aren't allowed to do on CP land in the coming week. Plans for a small festival are shaping up for Saturday June 20th from 1pm-11pm. It is shaping up to be an amazing day! We will need help co-creating it please, so get in touch w Emily asap. A calendar with 2009 events will be up on my site shortly.
